Restrictive striking/striking in cars
Develop power strikes from positions of disadvantage
Using car door to push off of with foot to generate more power
Get as much of your body into the fight as possible
Using your environment to your advantage (frame, window, steering wheel, etc)
Working from different seats and angles
Getting seatbelt off while striking
Switching with partner- adding communication
Can you access your weapon (s) while in the car
Do you have a plan with any others in the vehicle? Can or you help if someone needs it?
Gun Defense in Car
Working the principles
D- dialogue/distraction
R- redirect
C- control
A- attack, attack, attack
t – take away – it’s a small t because if you need to fight for it go back to attack- I can take a weapon away from almost anyone I render unconscious first
Ways to control and attack in the car, getting seatbelt off, using your weight
Redirect with multiple people in car and not sweeping them with the muzzle, working as a team, not getting in each others way
Using your environment (principle in KM) what can you use in the car to your benefit
When asking for help, do it like CPR be specific as possible. Who is lead person with hands on weapon or over watch?
Work through different scenarios using principles
Driver Down
Wheel first, then oh shit handle, then your foot against their shin sliding down getting them off the gas/brake depending on situation
Civilian vs military
Stan did this in Bosnia
Driver Extraction
Working as a team, code word
Passenger takes wheel (driver down), driver side backseat puts driver in bar arm, when car is stopped backseat passenger gets out opens drivers door, extracts driver and jumps back in drivers passenger side door. Then drive, drive, drive
Reviewing the general forms of defenses and when we use what according to the range
· Explaining and experiencing the challenges of defending a knife from close range
· Practicing defense in middle range vs. open hand
· Practicing defense in mid range vs upper knife attack, slash and a stab
· Learning different controls of the attacker’s arm with the knife, after surviving his first attempt.
· Drills to get better sense of fighting vs knife attacks and improving reflexes
· Fighting stand and the form of shooting
· Racking the gun and pointing to the target
· Taking a look at the handgun before running
· Running with the gun, stopping and entering the stand
· Switch aiming between close targets
· Switch aiming between far targets
· Kneeling and switching magazines and moving back to IPS stand
Standing and grips:
- Working from the same fighting stance as empty hand
- Forward grip with the knife pointed at the bad guy
- Forward grip is more versatile and lends to a greater range of motion
- Rev grip gives better concealment and works well close quarters
Cutting:
- 4 ways the knife can be used (slashing, stabbing, striking with the handle, punching as a fist load
- This can/should pe worked into combinations with punches and kicks
- Timers VS Switches
Self Defense:
- Defenses from punching and grabbing
- Deploying from concealment while being moved (creating balance issues)
Beginning Introduction: Benefits of sparring as a tool builder
- Develops Timing
- Understanding of distancing
- The ability to read body language (when a punch or kick is coming)
- Decreases mental shut down when getting hit
- Develops the ability to be simultaneously offensive and defensive when things are live
Positioning & Movement:
- Movement drills (moving to the dead side)
- Getting outside foot positioning
Offensive Striking in the Ring: Working principles of closest weapon (lead hand) to the closest target and principles of rotation for power
- Jab/Cross
- Lead Hook/Rear Round Kick
Offensive Striking in the Street: Working same principles and movement with technical modifications
- Jab/Cross = Lead palm to the chest (creating space and momentary mental shut down) / Right cross to the face
- Lead Hook/Rear Round Kick = Lead slap to the ear / Rear Round Kick
Reviewed Standing & grips:
- Working from the same fighting stance as empty hand
- Forward grip with the knife pointed at the bad guy
- Practiced standing at the correct distance if someone else has a knife as well
Moving with a Knife:
- Walk instead of shuffle
- We shuffle empty hand to create a leveraged stance for maximum power.
- With a knife, we don’t need maximum power. We need maximum speed to move in and out. Walking is faster than shuffling
Combinations:
- Moving at a 45, defending downward angle slash with an upward slash
- Apache Cross Defenses (Using the knife as a blocking and cutting tool)
Rifle down = safety on
Rifle up = safety off.
NO sweeping of muzzle horizontally.
Pause to stop movement and engage
Manage recoil before repeat rounds
M - Massive Hemmoraghe
Tourniquet
Compression bandages
stuffing gauze
A - Airway
R - Respiration
C- Circulation
'Leaking' wounds need attention but after the above. Don't get distracted
H - Head Trauma
VERY important to get a brain bleed seen quickly
Hard to diagnose in the field
watch for Altered Mental Status
- TQ placement
Engage threat
COMMUNICATE!
Covering!
Moving!
Look for cover before moving
Trust your partner
Use cover to deliver effective fire
Always have a working weapon system
Functional movement
Create strength through structure
Using the Turkish Get Up as a warm up, you can teach your students how to create strong positions through movement which they can carry over to Krav Maga techniques.
TGU to hand with poor shoulder position, have partner provide pressure through fist, then correct shoulder position activating scapular stabilizers. The partner again provides pressure. Have the students assess the stability they feel.
Have partners complete one hand gun from the front defense with newly found shoulder position. Make a point to discuss hip position pointed toward target, as well as pressure to hip joint, not soft tissue to create change in structure.
Point out using tension from floor against foot to create power in restrictive positions
