• Integrating full contact sparring in the training is crucial! A fighter needs to learn how to deal with hits, stress, lack of oxygen and preform under aggression. With full contact sparring the student can experience all above. And on top of that to have all the lethal tools of the krav maga that will be the most efficient in real life situation/ Street fight.

Tom Whitaker

Tom Whitaker began his training in 1980, at a local boxing program, due to issues of bullying. Mr. Whitaker was 10 years old at the time, and although it did not come easy, he worked hard over the next several years and eventually excelled; winning an outstanding boxing award in 1984 from the St Louis BBC.

In 1984, after winning the BBC Outstanding boxer award, Mr. Whitaker joined a local martial arts school to add additional skill sets to his training. Martial arts always interested Mr. Whitaker, and with his boxing background, he excelled very quickly. Due to his father’s work, Tom Whitaker moved around quite a bit as a child. Martial Arts schools were somewhat hard to find in the 80’s. So, from 1984-1987, Mr. Whitaker trained in the arts of Tae Kwon Do, Goju, & Shorin-Ryu; taking advantage of whatever schools were in the area he and his family moved. In 1987 he settled in Jefferson City, where he was introduced to the sport of Kickboxing. This became a love and passion in his life. From 1987-1999, although Mr. Whitaker still cross trained in various Okinawan, Korean, and Filipino arts, he focused primarily on his fight career. During this time period, he fought as both an amateur and professional kickboxer: winning state, regional, and national championships in the sports of boxing and kickboxing.

In 1999, Mr Whitaker retired from the ring, and along with his wife, opened a full-time martial arts facility in 2000. Mr. Whitaker began teaching a somewhat eclectic system which incorporated parts of various systems he had studied; modifying many of the arts to make them more combative. In 2004 Mr. Whitaker took a Krav Maga seminar during a Premier Martial Arts National Training event, with Mr. Ernie Kirk. Having done years of nightclub security, as well as full contact fighting, Mr. Whitaker immediately fell in love with the realistic approach to self-defense he saw in Krav Maga. This quickly became the new direction for his school and professional life. He continued to study Krav Maga, along with a mixture of Apache knife and Filipino stick & knife arts. In 2008 Mr. & Mrs. Whitaker changed their schools’ curriculum over to a Krav Maga & Kickboxing. Mr. Whitaker now trains competitive fighters and teaches Krav Maga daily at his facility. He travels around the country training other instructors through Krav Maga Universal.
